Come and see us Saturday 28th August, shake off those winter blues with some HOT gospel music, and find out why Deborah Cameron calls us “An Australian Treasure” (702 ABC radio)
With sacred music from the African American Gospel & Spiritual tradition, along with original compositions, the choir’s sound is an exhilarating mix. Rock, pop, funk, R&B and calypso rhythms have also found their way into the Gospel genre. It shoots from the heart its message of Love, Joy and Hope!
On Saturday 24th October 2009 Cafe Of The Gate Of Salvation was honoured to be a part of the 350.org climate change event on the steps of the Opera House. Australia was the first of 179 countries to take part in 4500 events worldwide as part of the International Day of Climate Action. The Cafe entertained more than 1000 people as they turned the Opera House steps into a global message board, forming the number 350 to send a climate change message to world leaders.
The Choir performing at Campbell Street Church, 2008
John Shand reviewed the gig at The Basement with Paul Capsis in the Sydney Morning Herald on 2 July 2001. He had this to say:
"...Gospel should be joyous music, and in this choir's hearts and voices it was. Musical director Tony Backhouse has honed a marvellous precision out of his troops without losing that crucial uplifting spark. ... you'd have to be burning in hell not to feel a tingle at the back of the neck."
