call for musical director

We are Café of the Gate of Salvation, Sydney's premier a cappella gospel choir. Inspired by the footstompin', soulful music of the African-American vocal tradition, we sing because we love to and we share our voices, to foster inclusiveness, compassion and joy.

The Café are now looking for a new Musical Director as we are farewelling our current MD, Dynes Austin, at the end of the year. We are accepting applications until 15 December 2017.

Our Next Gig

Basement soul and gospel with Diana Rouvas - Farewell to Dynes

November 4th at 8pm we'll be doing a great gig with our Heavenly Band and the amazing Diana Rouvas at the Basement. This gig will lift off the roof as Diva meets Gospel Choir meets funky Band - not to be missed.

Please join us as we take you on a soul-stirring gospel and soul evening, with special guest, the fabulous, Diana Rouvas, all supported by our wonderful Heavenly Band (Tim Rollinson: Guitar, Scott Saunders: Organ and Electric Piano, Ivan Jordan: Drums & Greg Royal: Bass).

We are delighted to have Diana Rouvas joining us on stage as we set off on our first exciting journey together. We hope you’ll join us for a fabulous evening of soaring voices and soulful songs as only this special combo can do.

From traditional a cappella James Cleveland gospel, to band-driven Sam Cooke and Aretha Franklin, we'll take you to the river, quench your soul and electrify your spirit with our delectable gospel and soul selection - come on down and be revived!

Leading us all is our fantastic Musical Director, Dynes Austin. After 10 years this will sadly be Dynes' last official gig before he heads of to Queensland. If you love Dynes, please come and send him off.
